A campaign success story
The Ape campaign has been a great success. The Ape Campaign planning group has been amazed at the commitment, energy and creativity shown by everyone who participated with activities from “Who’s the smartest ape” to sponsored runs, gorilla statues, lectures, conferences, and great visitor engagement. Millions of zoo visitors across Europe have learnt about ape conservation issues. We have so far received nearly €465,000 into the account and more money is coming in week by week. The Ape Campaign planning group is proud of what has been achieved so far. A big thank you to every participant, whether zoo, company or individual, for all what you have done.
EAZA Ape Awards
As usual with EAZA conservation campaigns, certificates will be awarded to institutions, individual people or teams that reach particular fundraising goals.

Fundraising
EAZA Ape Conservation Fund
One of the objectives of the campaign was to establish a lasting fund providing ongoing financial support to ape conservation. The EAZA Ape Conservation Fund already transferred funds to the four pre-selected projects:
- Awely’s Green Caps of the DRC: €20.560
- Kinabatangan Orangutan Conservation Programme: €35.640
- Dja Biosphere Reserve project: €35.000
- Cao Vit gibbon conservation project: €38.869
Project updates will become available on the website in due time.
This month the EAZA Ape Conservation Fund will open up the first ape project application round, EAZA member zoos will be invited to apply. We continue to look for sources of money to keep the fund alive. Some of our corporate supporters have continued to pledge funds into the future, and we will be asking zoos to do the same.
The apes still need our help and we must commit all our efforts to their continuing survival.
